UWUA represents thousands of workers in the public sector who do everything from maintaining safe drinking water to generating and distributing electricity to their municipalities. UWUA represents thousands of professional and technical members whose work facilitates utility planning and other essential supports to protect our utility infrastructure. Additionally, our members’ work involves closing and decommissioning nuclear power plants, a rigorous task that requires the same attention to detail as operating and maintaining these facilities. ![]() UWUA represents workers in the nuclear industry, an essential source of energy that provides reliable, carbon-free power. Natural Gas is one of the principal sources of energy for many of our day-to-day needs and UWUA gas workers play an important role in providing us with the safe delivery of gas to our homes and businesses. The work our members do places them at the center of America’s energy systems - at the point of consumption in a gas appliance for example and upstream all along the pipes. Our members maintain the electric transmission and distribution grid as substation operators, above and below-ground line crews, and tree-trimming crews. We work on steam heating, line reliability and in coal-fired power generation. UWUA members operate and maintain every aspect of power generation, transmission, and distribution. Utility call center operators and customer service representatives provide critical information to ratepayers in the aftermath of natural disasters, assist customers in obtaining essential services, and help customers pay their bills. These highly-trained members provide support that upholds public safety. UWUA represents call center and customer service representatives across the country.
